The Show Value/Meaning icon allows switching the Message View
display modes. In value mode, the actual value of the field read from the data
file is displayed (e.g. 0/1 for a 1 bit binary field).

In 'Meaning' mode, the field
description is displayed (e.g. Y/N for a single bit binary field that has a
yes/no value).
In 'Meaning' mode the Payload field will be displayed as ASCII
text and the non printable chars (if such are included), will be replaced by
dots.

By default, some of the numeric values are displayed in hexadecimal format (mainly data values, device ID, keys, etc.), while the rest are displayed in decimal format. The field tooltip indicates which of these representation methods is used.
By using the Message View tab in the User Preferences tool, the user may add a prefix for hex values (e.g. x01234), or chose to display all values as hex or as decimal regardless of the Perytons™ Protocol Analyzer default. See more in par. 19.4.
In case of bit fields, the field hint will indicate the field size in number of bits.
