Shows the number of USB dongles recognized by the analyzer.
Figure 215 – USB Dongles Available
In case of dongles that use virtual COM ports (e.g. Dizic, STMicroelectronics, Freescale), a list of the COM ports will follow the number of available dongles.
Only dongles that are configured with the appropriate firmware, and that are not used by another application will be recognized by the Perytons™ Protocol Analyzer and counted.
Although not recommended to do
so, if dongles are inserted or removed while the capture form is opened, the
Refresh Dongles button should be clicked in order to update the number and type
of available dongles.
Note: Updating dongles may take about 1sec
per each dongle. So in case of full capacity, refresh dongles may take several
seconds.
Figure 216 – Refresh Dongles
When pressing the Refresh Dongles button, the analyzer first disconnects the existing dongles (the progress is shown in the status bar):

Then it searches for available dongles:
Figure 218 – Connecting dongles in progress
Note: For dongles that
communicate with the analyzer over COM port the analyzer sends reset command to
all potential COM ports. In cases, where other devices are connected to the PC
over COM ports, these devices may reply badly to the analyzer test
message.
For such cases the user may define manually the COM ports that the
analyzer will use (or exclude the ones the analyzer shouldn’t use). See 19.1.
Given the number of available USB dongles, the user may choose the channels he would like to capture data from, by checking the boxes with the relevant channel number.
Figure 219 – Choosing channels to capture Data from
If the number of checked boxes exceeds the number of available dongles a warning icon will appear, and the start button will be disabled:
Figure 220 – Trying to capture more Channels than Dongles available, notice
Note: Inserting or removing
USB dongles while data capture is in progress is not recommended. To change the
number of dongles, stop the current capture, insert or remove dongles, wait for
the operating system to detect/install the new dongles (this make take a few
seconds), and only then refresh the number of dongles and start a new
capture.
If the number of dongles displayed doesn’t match the actual number
of dongles installed, and Refresh Dongles doesn’t help, the user needs to take
out the dongles and insert them again. If a USB hub is used, the USB cable
between the HUB and the PC should be disconnected, the HUB power cord taken out
and then the power and USB cable reconnected back (in this order). In any case
it is required to wait a few seconds for the operating system to detect the new
dongles before using the Capture form "Refresh Dongles" button.
